Seminar „Trafficking in Human Beings: Treatment of Victims and Witnesses in Judicial Process“

During many years of activity in the field of prevention of human trafficking in Bosnia and Herzegovina, International Forum of Solidarity- EMMAUS has continuously implemented activities such as the capacity building and training of professionals involved in efforts to combat trafficking in human beings, including representatives of state institutions, law enforcement agencies, prosecutor’s offices, educational and health institutions, non-government sector, and other professionals in this field of activity. As a continuation of activities aimed at building the capacity of relevant institutions, IFS- EMMAUS expanded and intensified activities through the implementation of regional projects such as the project “Promoting a Victim Centered Approach in Trafficking Cases in Albania and Bosnia and Herzegovina: Treatment of Victims and Witnesses in Judicial Process“.

This project will further enhance the capacity of the judiciary, prosecution services and judicial academies of these countries to fully comply with EU standards, with a focus on trafficking in human beings: treatment of victims and witnesses in judicial process, supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands.

The Dutch Judicial Academy – SSR actively participated in the transfer of judicial institution experience and prosecution in trafficking cases, through Training of trainers: “Trafficking in human beings”, on 6th and 7th March 2014. During the training, judges and prosecutors from Bosnia and Herzegovina, through theoretical and practical work, learned how to organize education on this topic and transfer their knowledge and skills to their fellow judges and prosecutors.

In order to implement further educational activities, IFS- EMMAUS, in cooperation with the Dutch Judicial Academy, Public institution Centre for Judicial and Prosecutorial Training of FBIH and RS, and the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina, held a two-day seminar entitled ” Trafficking in Human Beings: Treatment of Victims and Witnesses in Judicial Process“” at the hotel “Garden city” in Konjic, on 24th and 25th April 2014.

The aim of the seminar was for judges and prosecutors from Bosnia and Herzegovina, through theoretical and practical work, to transfer their knowledge, skills and expertise in applying a victim centered approach in trafficking cases to their judge and prosecutor colleagues, as well as to representatives of law enforcement agencies.
