Young people like to use mobile phones because they give them feeling of independence and possibility to plan certain activities. They can also entertain themselves with many games and other apps. They can make profiles on social networks and post photos, videos and other content that they want to share with their friends.

PHONE NUMBER

It is the best to give your phone number to your friends that you know in real life only. If your number is owned by the persons you don’t know, there is always possibility that they can harass or upset  you in some way. This is the main reason you shouldn’t post your number to any social network.

LOCATION SERVICE

Be aware if your location service is turned on when you post something or chat with someone. You never know who will end up having this information- potential child molester, potential thief-  you wouldn’t want them to know where you are and where your house is.

CAMERA ACCESS

As well as location service, many apps and games are asking your permission to access you contacts, gallery or your camera. If you allow that, that can cause many problems- from having your private info ending up online or you can even be spied through your own camera on your phone.

EVERYTHING YOU SEND ONCE IS ONLINE FOREVER

Always have in mind that everything that has been posted stays somewhere on the network forever and sooner or later someone can dig up that information about you and use it against you. Be careful who you share your photos with and remember that we are never cautions enough on the internet.

HARASSMENT

If you receive unwanted or insulting messages, talk to an older person you can trust. If you think that certain people have direct intention to harass you, look at the part of our website about cyber bullying. You can always report inappropriate behavior or ask for advice on our website or our Helpline.
