Sextortion is a new term related to the type of blackmail/extortion when sexual videos or images are used as means of blackmail for the purpose of earning money. This type of crime is usually carried out as part of a sophisticated organized crime network that operates from secret locations that resemble call centers.

Although there is not only one method used by these criminals, their victims are mostly acquainted with social networks or online dating sites. Often the victims are children or teenagers. The person you meet has false identity and does everything to gain confidence. Once they gain your confidence, they persuade you into uploading indecent photo or video.  After that, they begin to blackmail you with those photos by saying that they will publicize them or send them to people who know you if you do not send a certain amount of money. If the money is paid, the blackmail is usually continued and the person is looking for more money. Another method used is that in the midst of the video of the sexual nature, which the victim agreed to, the criminals suddenly put a video child and threaten people to report them to the police if they do not pay money. If something like this happened to you, your child, or someone you know, report the case to the police immediately and never pay any money!
